San Diego, CA -- Padres Pedal the Cause (PPTC), a local non-profit funding collaborative cancer research in San Diego, hosted their annual fundraising event virtually in May 2021, raising an astounding $1.5M. This year’s virtual experience was centered around the Padres Pedal the Cause mission of accelerating cures for cancer, with every dollar raised going directly to local cancer research. One hundred percent of these funds will support collaborative research between Rady Children’s Hospital, Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health, The Salk Institute, and Sanford Burnham Prebys. Together the astounding cancer-fighting community raised $1,524,719.
Padres Pedal the Cause kicked off childhood cancer awareness month by presenting Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego with a check for $228,707. In addition to funding pediatric cancer research, Padres Pedal is proud to partner with Rady Children’s through its SuperKids Program which honors local kids who are currently in cancer treatment together with Padres Pedal teams of participants who ride, fundraise, and celebrate in their honor. Teams and families form meaningful bonds that transcend the event and bring inspiration and hope to everyone involved.
“No child should ever have a cancer diagnosis,” said Anne Marbarger, Padres Pedal the Cause Executive Director. “To know that we at PPTC play a role in their road to recovery and to see them smile means the world to me, my team, and to the donors who make these check presentations possible.”
Marbarger presented Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego’s President and CEO, Patrick Frias with the check at the San Diego Padres game on Saturday September 4, 2021 along with Padres CEO Erik Greupner. Together, Padres Pedal the Cause and its fundraising community, are accelerating cures for cancer and ultimately saving lives.
